| LISTENING PROGRAMS |
 |
 |
|
|
The Open Ear Programs are auditory training interventions. The Tomatis Method takes place in a classroom for those who need daily onsite observation by a specialist. Each onsite program is carefully monitored by the listening staff from the Dallas Listening Centre. Each session has 2 Phases and includes
specialized equipment, tailored daily listening programs, and trained listening therapists who monitor each client's progress
over a 12-week period, with regular testing and consulting. The home monitored program is conducted at home with follow-up testing and takes place over a 12-week period.
I. The home program consists of specially developed
CDs, an electronic listening device, special
voice techniques and individually designed programs.
Home programs are closely monitored by a listening facilitator at the Open Ear Center.
II. The Tomatis Method is offered in Dallas and Houston, TX and varied outreach sites
at different times each year. Email tomatisdallas@sbcglobal.net for 2008-2009 programs
dates.
The OEC, in conjunction with the Dallas Listening Center, is an authorized provider of the Tomatis
Method and Listening Fitness Training Programs
designed for the development and enhancement of listening skills and the reeducation of the ear.
The
Tomatis Method Program is for children and adults
with learning disabilities, poor organizational and
academic skills and for persons interested in the
enhancement of communication and social skills. We
address difficulties in behavior, reading, speech
and the development of the voice.
Since
1991, we have worked nationally with children and
adults offering ongoing programs in the Tomatis Method
of auditory stimulation and the Listening Fitness
Training Program, a Tomatis-based class and/or home

Initial
assessments are necessary to participate in these
programs. Consultations for home and outreach classroom programs

| WEEKEND WORKSHOPS |
 |
 |
|
This evening presentation demonstrates how crosscultural sound and music are being applied in clinical settings, for self-healing and for spiritual growth.
Sound and music have been used successfully to intercept illness, through relaxation and stimulation, pain control and stress reduction, or emotional catharsis. The conscious
use of music promotes physical and mental wellness, and connects us spiritually. In many cultures, different sounds play a primary role in the death and dying process.
Through demonstrations, experiential practices and audio-visual illustrations, participants will be introduced to crosscultural healing music repertoires and select therapeutic techniques.
Pat Moffitt Cook, Ph.D., is renowned in the USA as a pioneer
in the use of cross-cultural sound and music in healthcare.
She is the founder and director of the Open Ear Center in
Seattle, Washington, a society that specializes in training
healthcare professionals and laypersons in the use of sound
and music to facilitate the healing process.
Pat is a teacher, clinician and the author of numerous
articles and several books. Her doctoral work in music paralleled
extensive practical training and certification in methods
of Auditory Stimulation and Sensory Integration and in Guided
Imagery and Music. For over 30 years Pat has traveled extensively
throughout the world, recording and participating in musical
rituals and the daily life of other cultures. She presents
internationally at university, medical and music and sound
healing and therapy conferences in applications of sound technology,
auditory stimulation, music and imagery, and on indigenous
music in healing traditions.
